Mississippi State (Bowling Green) and Texas A&M (Arkansas) OR Arkansas (Texas A&M) and Alabama (Vanderbilt) Tulane (Southern Miss) and Houston (Rice)įlorida State (Boston College) and Wake Forest (Clemson) OR Clemson (Wake Forest) and NC State (UConn) Ole Miss (Tulsa) and Kentucky (Northern Illinois) In addition to the consolidations outlined above there are a number of different potential mergers that could occur next week: This upcoming week features 8 land mergers (Baylor-Iowa State, Kansas-Duke(!), Wake Forest Clemson, Michigan-Maryland, North Carolina-Notre Dame, Oregon-Washington State, Ole Miss-Tulsa and USC-Oregon State). Last week featured 8 landless teams (Baylor, Notre Dame, UAB, Oregon, Bowling Green, LSU, Rice and Texas A&M) getting their way back on the board and 11 land mergers. Also if BYU can grab Wyoming's land this week that opens up potential for a bunch of different mergers later in the year. In addition to the Pac-12 land merger noted above (with a potential merger with Washington coming up in a number of different scenarios too), if Michigan State and Ohio State can win out they play in 3 weeks, while Kentucky and Georgia don't play for a while so it's unclear the best scenario for those pieces of land to merge. Teams holding land from last year's map include everyone from 2019/2020 plus Arizona, Rice, JMU, Kentucky, Ohio State, Wyoming and Washington. So the only in-season unification seems like it could occur is between the two SEC schools. So I'm just hoping it somehow ends up with teams going to the CFP for a potential unification in January.Īll land from both years (which have different maps) is with the 2018 teams plus Bama and Clemson. With the onset of conference play it seems like the land will stay in the Big Ten (Minnesota), Pac-12 (Oregon) and SEC (Georgia). I'm rooting for this because there's something beautiful about Wazzu being the school that unites all the land in college football. But it could also get united next week if Wazzu upsets the Ducks and the Wildcats lose to Cal. They play Arizona in 3 weeks so if both teams win out it could be united then. And not only is all prior land in FBS, but for these years it's all in the Pac-12 as Oregon snatched the remainder from BYU. Our beautiful Arizona boys did it! I'll never make fun of Jedd Fisch for never holding a job for more than 2 years or being mentioned by Bruce Feldman for every single opening ever again! All land from every year before 2022 is now in FBS as Arizona pulled off an upset(!) of North Dakota State.
